A Wild Crypto Heist in Singapore

Yo, listen up! A dude from Singapore, Malone Lam, is in some deep trouble, accused of pulling off a $230 million crypto heist. This guy even pretended to be a Google employee to con his victim. How wild is that?

The Allegations

Court docs say Lam, 20, teamed up with another bro, Jeandiel Serrano, to pull this off. Together, they managed to scam over 4,100 bitcoin. At that time, it was a whopping $230 million! Prosecutors labeled it “one of the largest cryptocurrency thefts from a private individual … in the history of the United States.” Not a small feat!

On October 23, Serrano appeared in court to figure things out. Both sides want to settle without going to trial—classic move, right? They asked for about 60 days to negotiate a deal.

The Genius Plan

These two didn’t just wing it; they had a whole strategy. They targeted a “high-net-worth investor” who had some crypto bucks lying around. Leading up to the heist, they sent him fake Google access notifications to distract him. Super sneaky, right?

On August 18, they called the guy, claiming they were from Google Support. They freaked him out about a hack and convinced him to share security codes. Lam then dug into the victim’s OneDrive and Gmail, scouting for his crypto stash.

They even called back, posing as a security team from Gemini to really mess with his head. They got him to transfer $3 million of crypto to Lam’s wallet. Clever, right?

How They Spent Their Ill-Gotten Gains

After snagging that crypto dough, Lam went on an insane shopping spree. He was partying it up in LA nightclubs, spending between $400,000 to $500,000 per night. Who does that? One time, he dropped over $569,000 in a single night!

Lam didn’t stop there. He bought a fleet of luxury rides—31 cars in total! Some of those bad boys set him back $3 million. Imagine cruising around in Lambos and Ferraris! Classic!

Outside of cars, he was all about that Miami lifestyle. He rented luxurious digs, including a swanky place for $68,000 a month and kept throwing money around in clubs.

The Arrest

Things took a turn when Serrano was arrested on September 18, returning from a beach vacay in the Maldives. His girlfriend spilled the beans, leading Lam to delete his Telegram like a scaredy-cat.

Lam got nabbed the same day in Miami. When cops searched his places, they pulled out nine luxury cars and some ridiculously expensive watches. Dude had bills of sale for the cars too!

What’s Next for Lam?

Lam’s got no legal status in the U.S. right now. He showed up using the tourist visa program, thinking he could chill for 90 days. The court’s not having it though, claiming he’s living large on stolen cash.

If found guilty, he’s looking at some serious jail time—up to 20 years, and fines that could reach $250,000. The wild crypto adventure might end in some serious consequences!
